Carl’s responsibilities as an assistant winemaker revolve around working in the winery and vineyards. Setting up winery and laboratory equipment, helping Peter oversee the cellar (barrel room), fermentation tanks, along with tasting the wines to ensure the excellence of blends.
Carl was delighted to join the team at Brookfields back in 2011 being drawn to the winery by its lengthy history, variety of wines and age of vines situated in the perfect locations in the Bay. Making for ideal conditions for a winemaker to craft outstanding wines.
Carl believes attention to detail and meticulous work practices are essential. Carl says - “the effort you put in is reflected in the wine quality”. Carl enjoys this challenge and the rewards that come with it.
Carl says that an unexpected bonus of working at Brookfields is not only making premium quality Chardonnay, Cabernet and Syrah wines - but to have further extended his repertoire by making small parcels of ‘Sun-Dried’ Malbec and when the conditions allow ‘Botrytis’ Viognier.
Away from the winery, Carl is a family man and is often playing basketball or cooking up a storm on his recently built home pizza-oven in the back garden.
